Breakout: Career Track

Presenter: The First Tee

Many exciting career opportunities exist in and outside of golf. Nearly every career discipline exists in the golf industry: marketing, communications, event planning, medicine, law, ecology and more. Hosted by The First Tee, students participate in exercises to help prepare for post-high school by developing long-range plans and setting goal ladders to help achieve their goals. Students also learn about the PACE Resource Center (Providing Assistance for Careers and Education) which provides educational resources including career exploration, test preparation and scholarship information.

Breakout: From the Ground Up

Presenter: The Toro Company

Maintaining a safe, healthy playing surface is an important responsibility of today’s turf professional charged with managing a golf course, sports field, municipal grounds and other outdoor landscapes. A leader in turf maintenance equipment and irrigation systems, The Toro Company leads an interactive discussion at Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports complex on the exciting and challenging job of managing high quality golf courses, sports fields and grounds. With many exciting opportunities in the turf industry, students will hear from Nicklaus Companies on pursuing dreams in the golf industry and course design. They’ll also learn about the responsibilities of today’s sports turf managers in keeping turf healthy and safe - for everyone from professional athletes to community sports teams.

Breakout: Golf Management

Presenter: PGA of America

The U.S. golf economy generates $62 billion in annual revenues and remains successful thanks in part to many organizations that play an active role in helping grow the game and the business of golf. Led by the PGA of America, the discussion provides an overview of the golf industry and career opportunities through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program. The 4 ½ year college curriculum, which is offered at 19 PGA accredited universities nationwide, gives students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the golf industry through extensive classroom studies, internship experience and player development.
